Extra Tips On Zoysia Grass Seed

Is there an alternative to the Zoysia grass?

Fortunately, there is. You won't get the same type of grass, but sometimes, you just want the same color and look. For example, your Zoysia lawn might have some dirt spots to fill in. Since Zoysia grass grows very slowly (can take many months, sometimes 1 year or more), you can use Turf-type tall fescue (which is a cool season grass) especially if you need to replace the grass during the cool season. Another solution is to use Zoysia plugs, but that's for the warm season.

Do you know the what's the difference between Canadian and Zoysia grass seeds?

If you look carefully, there is a slight difference in them. Canadian grass is also commonly known as Canadian Green (a brand), which is a mixture of Annual Ryegrass, Red Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass.

For the Zoysia, it is a thick grass that grows very slowly. It doesn't require much water or mowing and can resist heat very well.

What about overseeding your lawn with Zoysia grass seed?

That is NOT a good idea. This is because Zoysia grass seeds work best on new lawns.

But if your lawn is the Bermuda grass, then you can use Zoysia plugs. Then it takes some time till your entire lawn gets converted into Zoysia, from Bermuda.
